Welcome to the Darkside...

...join me, Akasha Savage, as I brave the deepest dungeons and scale the misty mountains to achieve my dream: to see my novel Bathory in print. I will take you by the hand and keep you beside me as I cross this uncharted territory...

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy....

I've taken a well-earned break from my writing this evening to catch up on my blogging activities.
I've not visited my favourite blogs or posted a decent post in weeks...or so it seems. And in all honesty, I've not missed it over much; when the writing fog descends I welcome it and let myself get lost in it. But. To quote Jack Torrence from The Shining: All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Speaking of which, check out the Typewriter Scene from The Shining on YouTube. That's been me over the last few weeks. Woebetide anyone who disturbs my flow!
And exactly how is Bathory coming along?
Slowly.
But it is coming along.
It's helped that school is now out for summer. In theory I have five weeks - I repeat five weeks - to concentrate on my novel. In practise: I am taxi driver to a seventeen year old daughter who wants taking to BBQ's, sleepovers, shopping expeditions and parties; I have major renovations going on in my living room: walls coming down, plaster going up, and decorating in progress. My writing space has been reduced to approximately two foot by one foot of space on the kitchen table. The rest of the table is piled high with stuff from the room being knocked about: hundreds of CDs, thousands of DVDs, and millions of books! Anybody walking into the kitchen can't actually see me behind the heaps of 'stuff'!
Despite all that, I am still writing. And enjoying it!

PS. Today is the witches festival of Lammas.
Have a good one!

  1. It is so nice to have some unbroken time to write. But you always have to fight, fight, fight to preserve that time. I've been asked a dozen times this summer to come to Xavier for somethign or another that is important. I've either ignored or just said no to all of it, and it feels good.

  3. I don't blame you in the least for taking time off from blogging to write, Akasha. Sometimes, time off is the best thing. As for your five weeks, I actually only have three remaining before I must get back to work. And my painting and renovating has just been completed! Sounds like we've had a bit of a similar summer...

I suppose it's also good to take a break from writing every once in a while... and to just do fun stuff. Enjoy everything you do... And "The Shining" is one of my all-time favorites!

    Take care.

  4. Charles~It does feel good when you say no...I'm just not very good at saying it to my daughter!! :D

Erratic Thoughts~I'm beginning to think that's what mums are: taxi drivers and banks! ;)

Nevine~I am so looking forward to my house being a home again and not a building site! It does help that it is my son doing the work: he's a builder by trade. It means I can be in a bit more control over the mess! How lucky you are that your work is complete.

Have you seen the TV version of 'The Shining'? Although it's not got the excellent Jack Nicholson in it, it sticks to Stephen King's book exactly.

  5. Ha! I'm taking a break from a writing evening to visit some of my favourite blogs. I haven't been around blogs for such a long time, I've been so busy with promoting CUT SHORT and ROAD CLOSED, and researching book number 4. Not that I'd change any of it, it's all very exciting, especially being shortlisted for a major award! If you think life is going to be less busy once your children have grown up - wait and see. I'm busier than ever these days.

  6. Love The Shining! :-D I wish I could completely drop out of sight to work on my writing, but the truth is, without an hour of procrastination and a cup of coffee in the morning, I wouldn't be able to focus.

  7. Leigh~ My children are all grown-up. My daughter is the youngest at seventeen, but I also have two sons: twenty-six & twenty-eight...and you are right...my life is no less busier now than it was when they were little!!

onipar~I'm with you on the morning thing. I have been known to sit for an hour or so, nursing my mug of coffee, before I can even think about turning my laptop on! :)
